If the input for the question is strictly numeric, select this
type. Although it is possible to use a free text input field for
this, it is recommended to use this question type for these
reasons:
- Numbers can be validated (select either integer or decimal, and
min/max values). If anything other than a number is typed into this
field, the system will automatically tell the respondent about
it.
- More statistics can be computed with a numeric field in the
reports.
- Will occupy less space in the database than text-fields.
- Improves database performance.
NOTE: Use numeric question type only for numbers you want
statistic analysis for. For inputs like telephone numbers, credit
cards and country zip codes text input type is recommended.
- Type. Choose integer or
decimal depending on the type of question. This will also cause
Opinio to restrict the user to enter the correct type of
number.
- Prefix label. Optional.
Placed in front of the field, like the text "I am" in the example
under.
- Postfix label. Optional.
Placed after the field, like the text "years old" in the example
under.
- Field size. The visible
size of the numeric field.
- Validation. Set various
restrictions on the user input, along with appropriate error
messages if input by the respondent is incorrect.
- Data variable: Header
for this question response to be used in raw data and SPSS
reports.
